    Description

Project 1 – Central Plant ImprovementCUP Upgrade: The Central Utility Plant (CUP) Upgrade includes increasing cooling capacity. The current CUP utilizes a 1000-ton centrifugal chiller as well as a chilled water thermal energy storage tank to serve the campus cooling loads. The solar thermal storage tanks and ice storage system will be demolished. The current solar thermal system will be drained and decommissioned. The chilled water pumps will be replaced to supply the added capacity. The condenser pumps and portions of the condenser piping will be replaced to maximize the capacity of the existing cooling towers. Finally, this project will include upgrades to the CUP to meet current codes and standards, including life safety systems, improved acoustical performance of the CUP office, and building structural upgrades.Project 2 – Hydronic Line ReplacementHydronic Line Replacement: The goal of the Hydronics Infrastructure Upgrade project is to replace the entirety of the chilled water and hot water distribution piping. A phased approach will be utilized including the use of temporary heating and cooling equipment to minimize building shutdowns and system outages during construction. The existing distribution system is located primarily within an underground tunnel system with some portions of direct buried piping. During the design of the PPC, a segment of the chilled water piping failed multiple times. As a result, this segment will be replaced under a separate scope of work. The DBE shall coordinate with the latest plans or scope of work for 40J-829.02 Infrastructure – Hydronic Line Replacement. In addition to replacing piping, minor tunnel repairs will be completed, and tunnel lighting will be upgraded to LED fixtures. Areas of direct-buried disturbed by piping replacement will be landscaped to match the existing condition.
