    Description

The County of Santa Cruz, Department of Community Development & Infrastructure is seeking proposals from qualified consultants for Professional Civil Engineering and Environmental Services for the Larkspur Street over San Lorenzo River Bridge Replacement Project (Bridge No. 36C-0068) in Santa Cruz County.

The existing bridge, constructed in 1957, is a 133-foot-long, three span, precast, prestressed four girder bridge on two reinforced concrete pier walls with spread footings and reinforced seat abutments. With a total width of 15’ 4”, it provides a single 12’ 2” travel lane with concrete curbs and timber railings on both sides of the structure. A narrow timber walkway is located on the downstream side of the deck. The bridge piers are considered to be scour critical with exposed spread footings and undermining. There is a sharp turn on the eastern approach roadway with poor site visibility. The bridge currently supports suspended water and gas lines, while telecommunication and power lines run directly overhead. The existing bridge does not meet current design standards.

The proposed project would include replacing and demolishing the existing structurally obsolete bridge with a two-lane, single span, cast-in-place, post tensioned concrete box girder bridge that would be designed to meet current safety, seismic, and scour requirements in accordance with current American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) or Caltrans design standards.

The bridge is listed in the Highway Bridge Program (HBP) and will be funded in part through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the County.

Consulting firm services must comply with the latest requirements of the Caltrans Local Assistance Procedures Manual (LAPM), Federal, State, and local regulations.

This RFP, and any future Addenda, if issued, will be posted on the OpenGov Procurement website at https://procurement.opengov.com/portal/santacruzcounty.
