In 2024, emergency repairs to the Lake Livingston Dam spillway and the area downstream were implemented following the failure of the tailwater weir. Those repairs were a stabilization of the spillway to return it to at least the level of protection and safety that had existed prior to the failure of the tailwater weir. The spillway needs to be improved to safely pass the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF), as required by FERC and TCEQ. The conceptual design developed as part of the emergency repairs was equivalent to a 30% design level though no formal 30% design submittal was made.
