About the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) is the principal set of rules governing the federal government's procurement process. Codified in Title 48 of the Code of Federal Regulations (48 CFR), Chapters 1–99, it applies to all federal executive agency acquisitions of supplies and services.
Contractors doing business with the U.S. government must comply with the FAR and any agency-specific supplements such as the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), GSAM (GSA), and HHSAR (HHS). Key topics include contract types, socioeconomic programs, small business set-asides, cost principles, and standard solicitation clauses.
