FAR 53—Forms

Scope of part.

FAR 53.000 is the scope statement for FAR Part 53, which is the part of the FAR that deals with acquisition forms. It tells readers that this part does two things: first, it prescribes the use of standard forms (SFs) and identifies optional forms (OFs) and agency-prescribed forms for use in acquisition; second, it contains requirements and general information that apply to those forms. In practice, this section is the gateway to understanding which forms are mandatory, which are available for use, and where to look for form-related instructions and limitations. Definitions.

FAR 53.001 is a narrow definitions provision that defines the term “exception” for use in FAR Part 53, which governs forms. It explains that an exception is not just any deviation, but an approved departure from the established design, content, printing specifications, or conditions for use of a standard form.
