    About 8

8(a) Sole Source awards allow federal agencies to award contracts directly to an 8(a)-certified small business without competition. This is one of the most valuable mechanisms in federal contracting, enabling fast award cycles and reduced competitive pressure for qualifying participants. The contracting officer must offer the requirement to the SBA, which accepts it on behalf of a specific 8(a) firm, and the price must be fair and reasonable.

    Eligibility Requirements

    • Business must be an active 8(a) Program participant in good standing
    • Contract value cannot exceed $4.5M for manufacturing or $7M for other contracts
    • The SBA must accept the requirement and identify a suitable 8(a) participant
    • Price must be determined fair and reasonable by the contracting officer
    • The participant must have the technical capability to perform the work
